Why it is everywhere
A popular little streamer, and why
People buy a Xiaomi TV box for plain reasons. It costs less than a new television, it hides behind the set, and the remote has a voice button plus shortcuts to the apps a household already uses. Because Google certifies it, the official store is there from the first start, which is what you want when installing a player cleanly.
Several generations are still plugged in across the Emirates, from the early Mi Box to the current Google TV model. All of them work with our service. You need a login from one of our yearly or lifetime plans, a player app and about ten minutes.
Which model is under your TV?
Turn the unit over and read the label, or open Settings › Device Preferences › About. Names differ a little between markets.
Mi Box S (first generation)
Android TV, 4K HDR, 2 GB RAM and 8 GB storage. Older, but still capable on every plan we sell.
TV Box S (second generation)
The current Google TV model, with 4K and wider HDR support. Our usual suggestion if you are buying today.
TV Stick 4K
Hides behind the screen and outputs 4K. A good fit for bedrooms and studio flats.
Mi TV Stick (Full HD)
1080p only, with less memory. Fine for Silver; not the right partner for a 4K plan.

The two limits
Tight storage and no network socket
Storage comes first. Most models carry about 8 GB, and the system claims a large slice of it. Two players, a handful of other apps and their caches can fill the rest, and a full device becomes sluggish or refuses to update. Keep one main player and one spare, and empty the player’s cache every few weeks from its own settings.
The network is the second limit. Neither Box S has an Ethernet socket, so everything rides on Wi-Fi. Join the 5 GHz band if your router offers it. Many owners add a USB network adapter; whether it works depends on the adapter’s chipset, so choose one the seller lists as compatible with Android TV.
Setting up a Xiaomi TV box for IPTV in six steps
This Xiaomi TV box walkthrough was written on the Box S. The 4K stick follows nearly the same route, though labels move slightly with each software release.
Power and pairing
Connect HDMI and power, pair the remote, choose your Wi-Fi and add a Google account. Accept any firmware download offered.
Make room
In Settings › Apps, uninstall the preloaded apps nobody in the house will open.
Add a player
Search the store for Smarters, TiviMate, XCIPTV or IBO Player and install one.
Enter the Xtream details
Type the three fields exactly as emailed. The server line keeps its http:// and its port.
Let the guide load
Channel groups and guide data download on first launch, which takes a minute or two.
Favourites and resolution
Mark the handful of channels the family opens every day, and on a 4K plan check that the display output reads 4K.
If a player does not appear in the store, the device usually needs a system update first. Run it from the About screen, restart, then search again.
Picture
When a 4K television shows a 1080p picture
After a reset, or when it is first connected, a Xiaomi TV box sometimes settles on 1080p even though the television can do more. Open the display settings and choose 4K at 60 Hz, or the automatic option if your model offers a reliable one. Then check the HDMI socket: on many televisions only one or two ports accept a 4K signal, and some need an “enhanced” HDMI setting switched on in the TV’s own menu.
With the output fixed, Ultra-HD channels on the Gold 4K and Platinum tiers appear at full sharpness as long as about 15 Mbps is free. Silver streams in Full HD, which looks crisp on most screens. Our explainer on 4K, HDR and bandwidth goes further.

Ask a questionIs a Mi TV box the same thing as a Xiaomi TV box?
It is the same family. The Mi Box and Mi Box S are the older models; newer ones carry the Xiaomi name. Every one of them works with our plans.
Can the Full HD Mi TV Stick play Gold 4K channels?
It plays them, but only at 1080p. To see the 4K picture you are paying for, use a Box S or the 4K stick.
Which player suits a Xiaomi TV box best?
Viewers who like a grid-style guide tend to choose TiviMate; newcomers usually find Smarters easier. Both run comfortably on the Box S.
Can the voice button on a Xiaomi TV box open my player?
Usually, yes. Hold the button and say the app’s name. The fixed shortcut buttons cannot officially be reassigned, so the voice route is the quickest way from standby to your favourites.

Symptoms, likely causes and what to try
Most complaints about a Xiaomi TV box trace back to the same short list. Work down the row before assuming the hardware is failing.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try first |
|---|---|---|
| Menus lag, updates fail | Storage almost full | Uninstall unused apps, clear the player’s cache |
| Stutter only in the evening | Crowded building Wi-Fi | Switch to 5 GHz or add a USB network adapter |
| Box gets warm, then freezes | No airflow in a closed cabinet | Move it into the open, restart once a week |
| 4K channels look soft | Output stuck at 1080p | Set 4K in display settings, check the HDMI port |
| Player missing from the store | Outdated system software | Update from the About screen, then search again |
| One channel fails, others play | Problem with that source | Tell us the channel name and the time on WhatsApp |
Family use
One lounge, several viewers
In most family flats the Xiaomi TV box lives on the main television, and everyone has a view on what should open first. Build one favourites list for news and evening drama, a second for the children’s cartoons, and put the film categories behind the player’s parental PIN. Players generally keep those settings through updates.
Older relatives often get on better with the voice remote than with scrolling: say the player’s name, then pick from the favourites. If a bedroom needs its own screen, the 4K stick plus a two-screen option gives the bedroom identical menus, which saves a lot of explaining.
Before you buy
Buying a Xiaomi TV box in the UAE
Pick a retailer that honours the warranty locally and keep the receipt. Grey imports can arrive with a two-pin plug and software set up for a different region.
For a 4K plan, the Google TV model is the safer purchase today. The Full HD stick only makes sense with Silver.
Ignore listings that claim the unit is “loaded” with channels. A clean device with your own login is safer, and our Android TV box buying checklist helps if you are comparing other brands.
